Parenting
Choosing to become a parent is a big decision and one that comes with its own unique challenges. While we are glad that you have chosen life for your baby, we want to ensure that you are not putting yourself into a stressful and harmful situation. It’s important to remember that there are many options available to you, and our peer counselors are here to assist you in discovering all the support services that exist in our area.
If I can’t afford to live on my own, where can I live with my baby?
As you consider the option of single parenting, there are many questions to consider. For example, if you can’t afford to live on your own, where can you live with your baby? We can help you explore your housing options before you deliver. We also offer information and guidance on childcare options, including living with a friend or relative, staying in a group home for single mothers, living with your parents or the birthfather’s parents, or finding an apartment in public, subsidized housing.
Can anyone help me with baby items, maternity clothes, etc.?
We also understand that single parenting can come with financial challenges, and we are here to help with that as well. Our center offers many material resources for you and your baby, including maternity clothes, baby clothing, childbirth, parenting classes, and more.
How do I get support from the father?
It’s important to note that the father of your child also has legal responsibilities, including providing financial support for your child. We can offer guidance on how to get support from the father and can connect you with resources for child support enforcement if necessary. It’s important for both you and the father to discuss your individual rights and responsibilities, as a child’s needs are best met when both parents work together.
Can I still choose adoption later if parenting doesn’t work out?
Finally, it’s important to remember that adoption is still an option if you find that single parenting is too difficult. Making an adoption plan takes courage, but it’s important to realize that you cannot provide all that your child needs by yourself. We can connect you with several adoption agencies in your area that can provide additional information and guidance on this option.
At our center, we are here to support you throughout your pregnancy and beyond. We offer non-judgmental support and guidance on all your options, and we are here to help you make the decision that is best for you and your baby.
