Think you might be pregnant?

Recognizing the early symptoms of pregnancy and taking a pregnancy test are important first steps toward getting clarity and planning your next steps.

Common Symptoms of Early Pregnancy

During pregnancy, your hormones change, which can cause the following symptoms:

Missed period

A missed period is often the first and most noticeable sign of pregnancy, particularly if your menstrual cycle is regular. If you’ve missed a period this month, it’s time to take a pregnancy test.

Nausea with/without vomiting

Many women experience nausea, sometimes with vomiting, often referred to as “morning sickness,” though it can happen at any time of day.

Fatigue

Hormonal changes during early pregnancy can cause feelings of extreme tiredness.

Breast changes

Tender, swollen, or sensitive breasts are common, and nipples may darken or become more pronounced.

Frequent urination

Increased urination can occur early in pregnancy due to hormonal shifts and increased blood flow.

Food aversions or cravings

Heightened senses of smell and taste may lead to unexpected aversions or cravings for certain foods. If you’re suddenly craving foods you normally dislike or feeling grossed out by your former faves, you might be pregnant.

Mood swings

Hormonal changes can cause emotional highs and lows, similar to premenstrual symptoms but often more intense. If you’re feeling like you’re on an emotional rollercoaster, you might be pregnant, especially if this symptom is accompanied by other signs of pregnancy.

Light spotting or cramping

Implantation bleeding or mild cramping may occur when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine lining.

Why Taking a Pregnancy Test Matters

If you’re experiencing these symptoms, taking a pregnancy test is the best way to confirm whether or not you are pregnant. A test detects the hormone hCG, which is only present during pregnancy. It’s best to take the test after a missed period for the most accurate results.
